Sita airs again on Thirteeen! 11pm Saturday October 3

This just in from Richard Siegmeister of WNET:

Sita is airing this Saturday at 11 on New York’s Channel 13!

And just like the last time Sita aired on WNET, I’m out of the country (by October 3 I’ll be in Armenia). Hopefully they’ll air it again later, so I can enjoy a screening party in New York. Meanwhile, please tell your New York friends.

  1. While flipping through the channels, I stopped when I noticed something that looked like a scene out of the “Ramayana.” I was immediately interested. But not five minutes into it, started getting irritated because it was kind of insulting. I was not familiar with this show/movie but was pretty sure it could not have been created by someone with an Indian background. I was right. Ms. Paley, I haven’t seen all of “Sita Sings The Blues” but I don’t have to. What I saw was enough. Just cause you’ve been to Inida, does not mean you are Indian. You have proved that by make such a joke of a film. Please don’t insult Indians and Hindus by making more of these types of films.

  2. I am watching this right now it is great and I want to thank you. I hope you are working on something new and you have a very interesting philosophy about sharing. I hope it works for you exceptionally well.

  3. It is on and it is freaking amazing, my boyfriend (also a cartoonist) and I love it and will definitely be telling everyone we know. You rock!!!

  4. Excellent. I’m watching and I couldn’t wait to Google this. Congratulations on creating something so enjoyable and uniquely brilliant! I wish you continued success and I appreciate your efforts to share yourself with the world through your art. Nuff respect!

  5. Nina!! I am a New Yorker and I just saw your Sita Sings the Blues on PBS, and my boyfriend and I were completely captivated! We loved it so much, and want to see more more more! WE are two of your newest fans! Kudos on how you designed Sita…she was absolutely adorable (we loved her jiggles). lol

  6. Just finished viewing your film on 13 in NYC – it was nothing short of WONDERFUL. Loved it! Oh, and Dave’s a fool. 🙂

  7. I just happened to be up late enough and luckily, luckily, luckily caught Sita Sings the blues on 13…laughed and cried and ordered five DVDs on Amazon…it is the most wonderful thing you could have done for me….made my heart go boing boing boing..thank you, NINA!….

  8. Hi Nina, thanks for the great movie! I’m from Brunei and all of my kids loved it! They’re 5, 4 and 2! Despite it actually being an adult oriented movie they actually sat down through it all. The only times they did that was when they watched Hayao Miyazaki’s movies. Btw, I don’t think it’s a desecration against Hinduism, I’m a semi-anthropologist. Hinduism is after all an absorbent religion. 🙂

  9. Today is Dipavali day here in Ingia, the equivalent of Christmas, commemorating the return of Lord Rama from his exile. By sheer coincidence I just finished watching your film with my family members. We are awstruck. Something which is so much a part of our culture has suddenly been made understandable as a very human tale for the first time in my life of six decades and plus, the blues, the paralell American narative, the wonderful “intermission”, the Indian voices , the chronologies—you have made it as brilliantly clear as the few stroke drawing of Axel the cat. What a heady blend! Ofcourse as you well know it won’t do for here. But thank you for this divine inspiration of a film. And of course Mr. Ebert for his pointing finger.
