Where is Seder-Masochism?

Seder-Masochism is currently doing its film festival rounds. There are a number of festivals lined up this Fall and Winter, most of which I can’t name until they make their official announcements. I really, REALLY want to free the thing online, like, yesterday, but many festivals will disqualify any film that has an “online platform.” Film festivals are the only theatrical screenings it’s ever likely to have, so I’m not going to publicize an online release – even a Free, peer-to-peer one – until its “regional premieres” (which some festivals insist on) are done. If it’s any consolation, this waiting drives me crazy. But I’m going to wait, so that it may see the light of theater screens.

P.S. If you haven’t seen my first feature, Sita Sings the Blues, now would be a good time to watch it! It’s Free all over the place.

  1. There will be people who won’t understand why you’re doing this, but it’s for the good of the movie, and anyone who respects creators should respect that.

  2. Did you see that “Sita” is on Newsweek’s online list of the 100 best movies of the century so far?

  3. I loved Sita Sings the Blues. I can’t wait to see Seder-Masochism. Keep it up!

  4. So excited to hear that it will eventually be released online. I’ve been waiting for this for a while and I will continue waiting patiently. =D Love your work, Nina! Also, hope your recovery is going well.

  5. Is there any chance Victoria Film festival will show it? I just heard about your work through your interview with Jordan Peterson, and was instantly wanting more. Great work!

  6. I was all set to drive down to Urbana with some friends from our group. At least one friend had signed up for the ride so far. I’m disappointed the screening got no-platformed. I hope I can see it in IL some time soon. If I could figure out a venue around Chicago, I’d work on it.

  7. Hi Nina… Emma Goldman is smiling upon you. She used to be thrown in jail regularly and she knew it just brought more people to her speeches to hear what she had to say. Leaders are targets and this sort of thing comes with the territory. You will probably need larger venues anyway and best be prepared with crowd control and escape strategies if protestors get out of hand. This may be just a trial run. I admire your speaking truth and willingness to discuss (not dismiss) issues with rational people who hold various opinions. That is how we all learn, by listening to a variety of voices. Kudos.

  8. Just watched your interview with Jordan Peterson and discovered your art – truly inspirational. Loved your video on copyright – sometimes it’s hard to explain that to people, but your approach is just terrific. Keep up your work!

  9. I put up a Wikipedia page for the film. Looking forward to seeing it myself! Can you upload more images from the film to Wikimedia Commons, so that they can be added to the article? Best…

  10. You are (or your muse is!) an inspiration – thank you for your hard work of channeling these stories that vitalize our collective culture. Your work is so beautiful and deep and your message on copying is something I totally agree with. Thank you!

  11. I can’t wait but I’ll do it somehow. I like your animations especcially ” Sita sings the blues”
