93.5″ x 95″. Cotton fabric, soy/cotton blend batting, polyester thread. Designed by me, stitchcoded by Theo, stitched on Behemoth the Quilt Plotter, reverse appliqued and bound by me. The process:
This is an experiment/prototype. Someday we may sell these, but for now PaleGray Labs is just research & development, consulting, and commissions.
Beautiful quilt, simple yet so elegant.
I think cats must have been quilters in a previous life.
That is just beautiful. What inspiration. I am glad you thought to make the cat such a nice quilt, I can see how happy she/he is to receive such a beautiful gift.
I just figured out what PaleGrey means 🙂 Can you ask Theo to do a guest post describing the stitchcoding in more detail?
I have a nerd quilter question: how does this type of appliqué stand up to laundering given the small amount of fabric left near the stitching on the top layer where the white fabric is cut away?
Raw applique isn’t very sturdy. But we did machine wash and dry it and it held up surprisingly well; only unraveled through the stitches in one tiny part I could find. If I planned to launder it a lot I’d apply fray-check to the edges, or satin-stitch it down.
this is a perfect gift for wedings, the dowry :)( so pomote that line)
